Walking the Hero's Journey can feel obscure in the beginning, but only because through the polishing do we develop the qualities required to unleash the Hero within.

Walking the Hero’s Journey is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. And it begins with letting go.

I am currently training through one of the programs from my Clubbell Evolution training series: Clubbell Hero Evolution. It is my second time through and this round I am doing it side by side others daring to make the leap (folks from all over, sharing their journeys on our Dare To Evolve Facebook Page).

The program consists of 4 training cycles, each with a different focus, reflecting the steps one walks on their path to discovering and unleashing the Hero within.

I am in the midst of the first cycle. A bodyweight only Primer cycle  that is designed to lubricate the joints, release densely bound up tension, smooth out “hitches”, kickstart the “furnace” and detoxify the body. This cycle’s focus is meeting ourselves where we are at NOW and cleaning the slate.

Because in the initial stages of the Hero’s Journey, a Hero finds themselves face to face with a big decision. A decision that entails letting go the life they know and its associated limitations, so as to make way for the life they are feeling called to embrace.

Letting go of what has become comfortable and safe. Letting go of no longer helpful or relevant mental, emotional and physical patterns that have become stagnant and are thus keeping us stuck in place. Releasing the power that “anchors”, such as fear of accumulated past failures, hold over us. To make this transition is never an easy decision and often feels more abrupt than any other step along the path. That is why the Primer cycle comes first. To support the letting go of baggage, clutter and noise currently obscuring our vision of what lies before us.

Now as with all Dare To Evolve programs, the physical fitness serves as the “vehicle” for developing our inner qualities/gifts, supporting the process and tapping into our utmost capacity. Below are the details of what came to me upon reflection, as my focus’s for this round (specific to that component of the program):

My goal over the next 4 months is, completely detached from the overwhelming ‘weight’ of what comes next, to leap at my daily tasks with unrestrained conviction.

Something that is so important in this journey, is to recognize that much of the challenges we face, we face again. Only each time it is at a new depth, with new insights and new facets to explore. Keep the goal tangible. Keep it specific. We have no idea how the process before us will unfold. So being as specific as possible keeps us moving as it does.

gandhi_1My Hero for this cycle is Gandhi.

To have someone we can look to as we move through these stages can help give us perspective on what we are trying to achieve. The last time I put myself through the program it was Spiderman. When I was reflecting on who that would be for this cycle, I thought “Who had a life that was structured, comfortable, stable and predictable, and then, listening to an unmistakable calling, did a complete 180?” I was hit immediately with Gandhi. Followed immediately by a conversation with myself: “Gandhi? Really? I mean, he’s awesome. But isn’t that kind of predictable. An easy go to choice? Shane!!! Let it it goooo. Gandhi is who jumped out at you. Don’t try to force an answer. Honor the one that spoke out from your heart.” See, already having to let go before I had even gotten started letting go. Wipe the slate clean of preconceptions or desires. Listen.

My Quality for this cycle is Simplicity.

Part of my nature is to immediately go BIG. I look at potentials and possibilities of what could be. I don’t see obstacles or hear reasons for why it would never work. The irony is, despite not having the limitations of “Can’t because…”, I face the limitations of “And this and that and then and then and… Whoa, whoa, WHOOOAAAA… too much!” We all have a natural lean towards one of the two responses. Both have their challenges. So I chose to focus on the quality of Simplicity. Because it allows me to keep things smaller, bite size, manageable… as I leap to the BIG.

And this incarnation of the Hero’s Journey has begun. More to come…
